Belize District is the largest of the six districts, with a population of over seventy-four thousand; while
Belize City is the largest city with a population of almost fifty thousand. This district is the heart of Kriol (Creole) and continues to practice cultural traditions, such as Sambai dancing
and Anancy story telling under huge mahogany trees. Specialty dishes are served up at many of the city’s restaurants, such as the Belizean national dish (spicy stewed chicken, served with a
delicious rice and bean combination cooked with coconut juice.) If you’re more into site seeing, a couple of must see’s while visiting Belize District are the Ambergris Caye and the famous Mayan
ruin of Altun Ha. Ambergris Caye is twenty-five miles long; its width ranges from a few hundred feet to over four miles. Just about every water sport imaginable is available here, including swimming,
fishing, sailing, windsurfing, and jet-skiing and more!
